Not sure if this is the proper category for this question, but here it goes.

I understand that if you contract yourself out as a programmer, your work can be classified as 'Work for Hire', in which case the employer would own all the copyrights to the code. Now, obviously in this case, I'll likely have a copy of the code, and even if I delete it (would I be legally bound to delete it?), a good chunk of the structure and stuff would be in my head.

The first question I guess is, let's ...

I haven't thought about this for very long, but it seems to me that with a little bit of work and some creativity, global warming can be a pretty good thing for us.

The sun, essentially acts as a gigantic power plant that transmits energy.  The earth receives some of this energy with some of it being absorbed and some of it being emitted away (with the emitted energy being gone).  When you absorb more than you emit, you get global warming, and the other way around you get glo...

Allow me to present this exaggerated scenario.

Let's say people absolutely fell in love with baseballs, and I'm talking about an unnaturally high demand for them.  They simply really want baseballs, and as many as they can get.  Baseballs become a very valued commodity and it became very, very profitable to make them.  Whole industries sprung up to make as many baseballs as they could of many different kinds and people kept on buying and buying them.  It get...

I have a question to anyone who might know.  Does anyone know what percentage of those in the income bracket of $250,000+ are sole proprietors or partners in a small business?  I'm still trying to look for the answer myself, so if I find out, I'll update it here.  I have heard that 60% of those in that income bracket are small business owners, but if my understanding is correct (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that many of those could own the business as an LLC for example ...

I overheard a friend of my brother's say the other day that he thought it was bad that companies try to maximise their profits and that they really should only charge enough for their products just so that they stay in business.  I think people too often vilify profits without thinking about the positive side effects for a company to profit.  Upon thinking about this, I've also come to certain views about charities and some problems that can arise from them.

Let's say that someone l...

I'm under the belief that when one feels very strongly about a candidate, positively or negatively, one often ignores the bad or the good that comes from the candidate (depending on how he/she is viewed).  I actually quite enjoyed Brad's scoring of the debate, because it seemed to have been done in a more objective a manner.  Though I will say that I too will probably suffer from this as well, but I will try to give credit to each of the candidates where I believe credit is due, and ex...

The other day I was playing Warhammer Online, and some members of my guild and I were discussing the issue of Chinese Fund buying a large portion of Morgan Stanley.  After some talking the issue of outsourcing came up, and everyone seemed to be strongly against it.  One person commented as to how terrible it is that Americans are losing their jobs overseas, and someone else commented as to how it hurts our economy that money is moving overseas and how we are unable to tax those oversea...

Okay, I give up. Is there a way to view all the forum posts in a particular forum category? For the life of me, I simply can't figure out how. Currently I can only view the active posts in a forum, or *all* the recent posts, but not only the recent posts from a particular forum category.

For example, let's say I wish to see all the forum posts in the Beta Feedback category, ignoring the recent posts everywhere else. How would I do that? Is it possible?

Let's start this blog off with an ethical question even though it may not apply today, it might later on. Should AIs of sufficient intelligence have individual rights?

Let's say you met someone and had an interesting conversation with that person. Nothing seemed unusual at all about the conversation, but you then later found out that said person was not an actual human, but an android. Essentially, this android is so well programmed, that the average person would be unable, simply by tal...
